Their idea of Israel disappearing is underneath their call for human rights and freedoms for Palestinians by insisting they have the right to return to Israel where they can use their population (taught to hate Israelis) to overrun Israel. I get that Bibi’s actions in picking one party over another would result in the other party having sour feelings towards his government and making him pay a price. But those Dems who voted against that don’t care who is the prime minister. For eight years, I thought the JCPOA was one of Obama's biggest achievements. It looked like he had defused one of the threats from Iran (though not all of them) through persistence and skill. I defended the JCPOA when Trump trashed it.
October 7 completely changed my view. I am now convinced it was a mistake to give Tehran anything whatsoever. The world would have been better off if Obama had never bothered with sanctions or negotiations, if he and Netanyahu had destroyed Iran's nuclear program when it was much less advanced than it became. Rollback, not detente.
Look at what Obama had to tolerate in order to reach his Iran deal. Look what he had to do for the sake of (some) stability in the region. He didn't punish Sisi for the coup in Egypt (kept Netanyahu happy). He didn't enforce his red line in Syria (Assad was Iran's friend). Obama thought he could cut a deal and look away from the Middle East. So much for that idea.
As a lifelong Democrat, I support DMFI in order to support pro-Israel candidates, but I'm concerned about the naivete of some of what the leaders of DMFI say on Substack and on their website.
They don't seem to be fully aware of the multi-front jihad that is being waged against Jews, Israel, and the West, and they're still holding on to the destructive fantasy of a two-state solution.
For a while after October 7, it seemed plausible that the anti-Israel, pro-Hamas, Jew-hating far left of the party would remain a fringe nuisance. Since then, the mainstream of the party has become poisonously anti-Zionist and antisemitic.
For many decades, the large majority of American Jews have been Democrats. Few of us want anything to do with Trump or with old-fashion Republican BS like trickle-down economics and covert white supremacy, but the Democratic Party is rapidly abandoning us and leaving us adrift. Nevertheless, we still want and need the good things that the Democrats stand for, and we need bipartisan support for Israel and for Democratic support in the fight against anti-Jewish hatred, violence, and discrimination. We can't afford to hand the party over to a Jew-hating majority and imagine that we can safely walk away.
We need DMFI leadership to wake up and start helping to build a pro-Israeli grassroots movement within the Democratic Party, including Jews and non-Jewish supporters of Israel, to bring the party back to its senses. Supporting friendly candidates is great, but it's not anywhere enough, given the gravity of what we're now facing. And as far as I can tell, there aren't any other organizations besides DMFI that could help to organize grassroots, pro-Israel Democrats. Please take this seriously and do something about it!
Your enlightening essay is pragmatic about the changes in the Democrats towards the State of Israel. Yes, many are obsessed with Netanyahu in their rejection of Israel and attacks on Jewish Americans (dual loyalty theory). However, the misinformation online and speeches delivered from the floors of Congress mean your education efforts to keep the truth flowing, especially about legislation that benefits not only Israel but also the US is very important. Wonder how the workers in the defense industry feel about reductions in weapons to Israel, since Israel spent so much of their aid money in the US. While I have confidence that Hakim Jeffires will try to take the path of compromise, he will have the DSA and anti-Israel stalwarts to deal with, not to mention radical Islamists who may get elected in November. If the Democrats fail to assist Israel with its security in the next 2 years and run a Chris Van Hollen type of Democrat for President in 2028, I can see Jewish and other pro-Israel Democrats turning to the post Trump GOP, especially if Rubio (not Vance) runs for the Presidency in 2028.

I didn't leave the Democratic party, the party left me. The US spends more on illegal immigrants than Israel but they don't mention that.
